This course will look at contemporary periodontal therapy aimed at arresting infection and maintaining a healthy periodontium. Non‐surgical approaches will be examined as an effective means of treatment for most inflammatory periodontal diseases. Current information regarding the risk factors of smoking, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, pre‐term low birth weight and periodontal disease progression will be highlighted as well as patientspecific maintenance protocols including micro ultrasonic debridement techniques used in combination with local or systemic antimicrobial therapy. In addition, clinicians will be updated on the diagnostic criteria and risk factors associated with recurrent and refractory periodontitis and systemic diseases.
